Get the Most from Your Text Message Marketing

By now, you’ve probably heard that text message marketing has an engagement rate eight times greater than email marketing. But did you know that 43% of customers are more likely to make a purchase when mobile offers are part of a multi-channel campaign? And, 89% of consumers say they actually prefer texting over any other form of communication. With an opportunity to increase your bottom line, text message marketing cannot be ignored.

Text Message Marketing Best Practices

When it comes to text message marketing, there are a few basic rules to keep in mind in order to provide the best experience for your customers:

  • Keep it brief and to-the-point. It can be off-putting to read large amounts of text on a smaller device. Additionally, text messages are limited to 160 characters per message. Get rid of any non-essential words, and make sure that the message is clear and easy to understand by everyone on your list.
  • Make offers easy to redeem. There is nothing more frustrating than getting a great deal, but being uncertain how to redeem it. Make sure your message is clear regarding what needs to be done in order to use what has been offered.
  • Don't over-send. While people have grown accustomed to tuning out the noise in their email inbox, they don’t have quite the same tolerance when it comes to text messages. When in doubt, it’s best to keep your text marketing frequency down.

Text Message Marketing Ideas

Text message marketing has its own set of expectations and rules that you should learn and follow if you’re hoping to find success in your strategy. Character limitations, as well as text-only capabilities, mean that you’ll have to get even more creative to keep messages interesting, engaging, and actionable.

  • Summarize your phone call: Use this method to send a summary of what you discussed with a caller over the phone. This way, you both have key details in writing, and it provides another open channel of communication with the lead or customer so they can ask follow up questions or coordinate the service further.
  • Re-engage after a quote: Have you been ghosted after sending a quote? You're not alone, but why not send a follow up and ask the lead over text if they had any questions about the quote. Even if the lead is talking to your competitors, this shows that your business is still actively invested in the relationship and providing the best service possible for their project.
  • Push Recipients to Social Media Pages: If you’re already holding contests on your social media pages, you can use your text marketing list to drive more customers to enter and engage with these. This is also a great way to get more people to follow or like your business pages across various sites.
